FINLAND - The Presidential Palace
The President of Finland has access to not one, not two, but three official residences: the Presidental Palace, Mäntyniemi, and a summer residence called Kultaranta. As of this writing, the President of Finland is Tarja Halonen. However, Conan O'Brien might have had something to do with her reelection in 2006.
The Presidential Palace
Before this building became a Presidential Palace, it was a salt storehouse, a merchant's home, and a military hospital. Today, the building is used to house of the Office of the President. Every December 6th, a reception is held at the palace to commemorate Finland's independence day.
Mäntyniemi
The Mäntyniemi is located in the Meilahti district of Helsinki. The three buildings on the site are used as private apartments, reception rooms, and offices. With a much more modern look than the Presidential Palace, the Mäntyniemi was completed in 1993.
Kultaranta
The Kultaranta is the President's summer residence in the town of Naantali on Finland's southwest coast. In addition to a granite-built house, the complex includes numerous outbuildings and greenhouses, and a well-tended park. The President vacations here when she doesn't want to be disturbed, especially by American talk show hosts.
